City Continues Planning for Highway 75 Improvements

The City of Sioux Center is in ongoing discussions with the Iowa Department of Transportation regarding improvements to Highway 75.

“In Sioux Center, this roadway serves both local and US Highway travelers. Improving its ability to handle vehicle and pedestrian traffic safely is a priority for us, especially as Sioux Center continues to grow,” said Sioux Center Utilities Manager Murray Hulstein said.

Hulstein shared a brief update on Highway 75 improvements with the city council Thursday, noting the DOT has not yet placed Highway 75 improvements on a five-year transportation improvement plan, which are set each year by the Iowa Transportation Commission.

The city is working with the DOT on the next steps for Sioux Center to move the project forward.

“We know historically it can take several years for a project, especially one of this scope, to be added to the DOT’s five-year plan,” said Sioux Center City Manager Scott Wynja. “We will continue to talk with DOT staff as we shape our plan for these improvements.”
